Phillips: Birmingham brace
Reading and Birmingham City continued their preparation for the new Championship season with triumphs over Swedish and League opposition respectively.
Steve Coppell's Reading secured a 3-1 success over Halmstads BK, with new signing Noel Hunt netting a brace and Kevin Doyle also on target.
Birmingham, meanwhile, claimed a 3-2 victory against Leicester City, with Sebastian Larsson on the scoresheet and summer signing Kevin Phillips striking a brace.
Sheffield United defeated League Two outfit Bury in their fixture at Gigg Lane, claiming a 2-1 triumph.
Ipswich Town were made to fight for their win against Brighton as a 73rd minute penalty from Tommy Miller proved decisive.
Sheffield Wednesday went down 1-0 in their match versus Chesterfield at Saltergate, while Southampton were held in their game against League One club Hereford.
SPL club Kilmarnock claimed victory as they downed Queens Park Rangers 1-0, while Scottish First Division outfit Livingston held Coventry at Almondvale Stadium.
Andy Keogh scored the only goal of the game as Wolverhampton Wanderers managed a 1-0 win over Walsall.
Peter Bore was on target in the 30th minute to hand Grimsby Town a 1-0 win over Lincoln City, while Brentford triumphed 2-0 over conference side Hampton & Richmond.
Wycombe Wanderers' encounter against Oxford United ended in a 1-1 stalemate, while Leeds came away with a draw in their clash at Darlington.
St Mirren registered a 2-0 success over Blackpool, while Colchester were also victorious against cash-strapped Luton Town, claiming a 1-0 win.
Bradford City suffered a 2-1 defeat in their friendly against Altrincham, and Yeovil downed Plymouth Argyle 1-0.
Elsewhere, Stockport downed Macclesfield 2-1 while Swindon held Championship opposition as they secured a 1-1 draw against Cardiff.
