Wenger trusts in Gallas

Arsenal boss hints defender will maintain captain's armband

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has hinted he will continue to name William Gallas as his captain next season.

Gallas, who was handed the skipper's armband last summer, came in for heavy criticism following his reaction to the Gunners' 2-2 draw against Birmingham City in February.

And speculation has suggested that star midfielder Cesc Fabregas could instead be given the responsibility of leading Arsenal out after Gallas admitted he made mistakes.

However, Wenger believes that former Chelsea defender Gallas coped well with the pressure last term.

"I think he (Gallas has done quite well last year for the biggest part of the season and a lot of responsibility has been given to him when it was right," Wenger said in the Daily Mail.
