Arshavin: Interested in Spurs move

Andrei Arshavin's agent has confirmed Tottenham are in talks to sign the Russian star, but says a deal is still a way off.

Tottenham are lining up a move for Arshavin as they look to bolster their squad following the sale of Robbie Keane to Liverpool.

Arshavin, who impressed at Euro 2008 with Russia, is keen on a move away from Zenit St Petersburg as he seeks a new challenge.

A number of top clubs including Barcelona and Arsenal have been linked with the skilful playmaker, but Tottenham are hoping to lure him to White Hart Lane.

Arshavin's agent Dennis Lachter has confirmed Tottenham have held talks with Zenit about signing the 27-year-old and that the player would be interested in a move to North London.

"At this point there is some talks with Tottenham, but nothing complete because of the high fee Zenit want for Andrei," Lachter told skysports.com.

"The gap is huge between the two clubs as Zenit are looking a lot of money for Andrei.

Top target

"Juande Ramos very much wants to sign Andrei as he is his number one target and Daniel Levy is doing everthing to make the deal, but it is difficult to agree a fee with Zenit.

"Ramos has been following Andrei from his time in charge of Sevilla and also from last season's Uefa Cup run when Andrei was the outstanding player in the tournament.

"Andrei has made it known he wants to leave Zenit and the player has made his decision he would like to go to Tottenham.

"He likes the way Tottenham play football and he is a big admirer of Ramos."
