Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's dispute with Cardiff City appears to be no closer to being resolved.

The veteran Dutchman was released by the Championship club at the end of last season, despite having played in enough games to trigger a clause in his contract that entitled him to another year at Ninian Park.

Hasselbaink was keen to take up the option but Cardiff have since claimed the 35-year-old verbally agreed to waive this right.

The case is now the subject of a Professional Footballers' Association mediation but with talks having proved unproductive to date, Hasselbaink accepts the matter may have to be resolved in court.

"It's not resolved yet. We have to wait until we can resolve it. I would have loved to have played another year of football with Cardiff," he told Sky Sports News.

"I had a great year with the club last year but it is not to be.

"It looks like it could go to court."
