Zenit St Petersburg have stated that playmaker Andrei Arshavin could complete his transfer to Tottenham Hotspur 'within five days'.

The Russia international's agent confirmed on Wednesday that talks between Spurs and Uefa Cup holders Zenit over a deal are under way.

Arshavin, who impressed at Euro 2008, is keen on a move away from Petrovsky Stadium as he seeks a fresh challenge.

Zenit are reportedly seeking a £24million fee for the 27-year-old, but it is claimed Tottenham are keen to drive that figure down over the next few days as they look to land the forward.

Zenit spokesman Konstantin Sarsaniya told sports.ru: "We have certain contacts with Tottenham, but when they will conclude, I still do not know.

"Maybe within five days, maybe sooner, maybe later.

"Tottenham have an interest in the player, and I understand that the player has an interest in the club too."
