Palacios: Staying with Wigan

Wigan midfielder Wilson Palacios has put pen-to-paper on a new contract with the club.

The Honduras international joined the Latics in January and impressed to such an extent that he was linked with several of the Premier League's top clubs earlier in the summer.

Steve Bruce has now convinced Palacios to commit his future to Wigan, although the length of the deal has not been disclosed.

Palacios has spoken of his delight at signing a new contract, and is looking forward to the start of the Premier League campaign.

"Why would I want to leave Wigan?" the 24-year-old told the club's official website.

"I've enjoyed every minute since linking up with manager Steve Bruce again and I love the Wigan fans.

"The climax to last season was amazing and I am proud to be playing with Wigan (in) the best league in the world."
