Aberdeen are hoping to finalise the signing of Darlington striker Tommy Wright by Monday.

Wright has already agreed personal terms to move to Pittodrie, but has yet to pass a medical after undergoing knee surgery at the end of last season.

Darlington boss Dave Penney has threatened to cancel the deal, if the transfer is not completed next week.

But Penney's Aberdeen counterpart Jimmy Calderwood is confident the £100,000 switch will soon be wrapped up.

Physical presence

Calderwood told the Press and Journal: "The way Tommy is talking, he is hoping to be involved against Inverness next Saturday, but I would doubt that. He has not played in any pre-season games.

"We are hoping to get Tommy up on Sunday or Monday. Tommy has done all the running, but he has only had two days of contact training. Darlington are wrapping him in cotton wool.

"The first thing is to get him through the medical and then go from there. He is a confident lad, but we will see how he goes when we get down to the nitty-gritty.

"He will be a good addition. He has a great physical presence and he had tremendous quality as a youngster. You can lose your way a little bit, but not the quality and we want to get him in and working hard on his game."
