Sunderland goalkeeper Marton Fulop has expressed his disappointment after the collapse of his move to Stoke City.

The Hungarian held talks regarding a permanent transfer to the Britannia Stadium after the two clubs agreed a fee in the region of £3million.

However, Stoke pulled out of the deal and eventually snapped up former Aston Villa keeper Thomas Sorensen on a free transfer.

Black Cats boss Roy Keane criticised Stoke for their handling of the situation and Fulop is also unhappy about the matter.

Fulop is now back with Sunderland and he insists money was not a factor behind the switch falling through.

Useless

"I wanted to go to Stoke, but after the two clubs agreed about me, the talks slowed down," Fulop told Nemzeti Sport.

"I didn't even train with Sunderland in order to avoid an injury and I looked forward to going, but it was useless.

"My agent talked to Stoke officials and we felt that they protracted the deal and they didn't really want to sign me, unlike in the past.

"So I've decided to say 'no' to their offer - not for financial reasons, especially as I could have earned more than in Sunderland.

"I've arrived at a milestone of my career. I'm 25-years-old and I have to accept an offer which fits my career and helps my development in every aspect."
