Adrian Mutu looks set to pen a new contract at Fiorentina, ending the speculation surrounding his future.

The Romania international is thought to be close to agreeing an extension which will keep him in Florence until at least 2012.

There are still some minor details to be ironed out, but an agreement between the two parties is expected to be reached without any major problems.

Should the former Chelsea man commit himself to La Viola it will bring to an end the rumours suggesting that he is set for a summer departure.

He had been strongly linked with a move to Roma, only for Fiorentina president Andrea Della Valle to block any potential move to the Italian capital.

Della Valle had always maintained that the club's priority was to retain the services of Mutu, and he appears to have succeeded in his efforts.
