Tony Pulis has confirmed Stoke City are holding talks with Valencia striker Nikola Zigic.

The imposing Serbian has been linked with a move to the Britannia Stadium after struggling to establish himself at Valencia.

He has already turned down a move to Galatasaray this summer, but could be offered a switch to the Premier League.

Potters chief executive Tony Scholes has travelled to Spain, although Pulis insists it does not mean the club will sign Zigic.

Great pedigree

"Tony is over in Spain speaking to the player at the moment, but that doesn't mean he will be signing for us," Pulis told the club's official website.

"He is a player with great pedigree and has an outstanding goalscoring record, but he isn't the only player we are looking at.

"There is a lot going on behind the scenes and I am desperately hoping we can get at least a couple in before the Bolton game next week.

"We are working tirelessly trying to get players in and there are quite a few irons in the fire at the moment, but we will not sign someone for the sake of it.

"We have to make sure we get the right players in, who have the right quality and the right attitude."

Amdy Faye is currently training with Stoke and played in Friday's friendly against Osasuna, with Pulis due to make a decision on the Charlton midfielder next week.

Pulis said: "Amdy is with us because he is a player who has plenty of top-flight experience after playing for Portsmouth and Newcastle.

"He is with us for five days, and any business we do with the lad will be conducted between Stoke City Football Club and Charlton Athletic."
