Ipswich Town boss Jim Magilton has played down reports linking Jon Walters with a move to Stoke.

Premier League new boys Stoke are thought to be interested in signing Walters as they look to bolster their attacking options.

The former Blackburn and Bolton man enjoyed a fine season with Ipswich last season and Town boss Jim Magilton is keen to keep hold of the 24-year-old.

"Jon is still an Ipswich Town footballer and until that changes and until somebody tells me he is not, then he is going to be treated accordingly," Magilton told Sky Sports News.

"Certainly we are in a position now at this football club where we don't have to sell our best players and Jon is certainly one of them.

"I think he could play at the next level and that is where we want to play in and hopefully he can take us there."

Magilton was remaining coy on the club's interest in Portsmouth's David Nugent.

Town are believed to have made an enquiry for Nugent, but when asked if the club had made a bid for the England international, Magilton said: "No bids. Not at the minute no."
