Bent: In line for England spot

Fabio Capello admits Darren Bent is in contention for a call-up to the England squad for next week's friendly with Czech Republic.

Bent has earned three caps for his country, but has not played for England since Capello replaced Steve McClaren at the helm.

The Tottenham Hotspur striker's last international appearance came in McClaren's final game in charge against Croatia last November.

However, Bent has been in explosive form in pre-season and could start Spurs' opening match of the new Premier League campaign against Middlesbrough on Saturday.

Played well

Capello's assistant Franco Baldini watched Bent score twice against Roma on Sunday and the England coach is considering a call-up for the in-form forward.

"It's possible he'll be in, but you will have to wait a few more days," said Capello.

"Two years ago, Bent was a very important player and Spurs spent a lot of money on him.

"He only played at the end of last year, but my assistant Franco Baldini saw him on Sunday and told me Bent played very well."
