Johnson: Talks ongoing

Manchester City boss Mark Hughes has revealed that talks over a new deal for Michael Johnson are ongoing.

The highly-rated midfielder enjoyed an excellent season last term but there has been speculation over his future in recent weeks.

The 20-year-old rejected the offer of a new contract at the weekend and it was understood that negotiations have since broken down.

However, City are still keen to keep Johnson and Hughes believes the issue should soon be resolved

Hughes added: "Negotiations with Michael are ongoing and we are hopeful they will be concluded very quickly.

"There are a few 'Ts' to be crossed and 'Is' to be dotted but we are very close."

A number of clubs, including Everton, Aston Villa, Arsenal and Liverpool, have been linked with the England Under 21 international this summer.
