Peter Kenyon admits that Chelsea are keen to avoid a repeat of the Frank Lampard saga.

The England international penned a new five-year deal with the Blues on Wednesday, but only after a summer dominated by speculation linking him with a move to Inter Milan.

While the situation ultimately ended in a satisfactory manner for the West London club, they are keen to ensure that they do not become embroiled in a similar position in the future.

Didier Drogba and Joe Cole have both held lengthy discussions with the club over the summer regarding their long-term future, although no contract extensions have been agreed.

Careful

Kenyon revealed that no further talks will be held in the coming weeks, but he remains keen to resolve the issues as soon as possible.

"We've got to be careful as we don't want to move from one set of speculation to another," the Blues' chief executive told the club's official website.

"Didier's got two years and Joe's got two years. I think we've got to the point that the season's starting and those talks will be put on the shelf."

He added, "Didier's working really hard to get fit - Frank knows this better than anybody - all players just want to focus on football once the season starts, without distractions."
