Curtis Davies has become the latest Aston Villa player to urge Gareth Barry to stay at the club.

Liverpool have been chasing £18million-rated Barry since the end of last season and Villa manager Martin O'Neill is uncertain if the midfielder will stay with his Midlands outfit.

England international Barry netted an early opener in Villa's comfortable 4-1 first leg victory over FH Hafnarfjordur in the second qualifying round of the Uefa Cup on Thursday.

The midfielder's appearance means he would be cup-tied in the UEFA Champions League if he moved to Anfield, which could decrease Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez's interest.

And Davies is keen for his team-mate to stay, telling five: "I think he (Barry) showed in the second minute what he can do.

"That's what the celebration was about - we love Gareth, we want him to stay and hopefully he does.

"We just try to get on with it. If Gareth's there I'm happy. If he's not there one day, I will be disappointed but good luck to him."
