Arshavin: Hoping for move

Andrei Arshavin's agent says the Zenit St Petersburg playmaker wants to move to the Premier League amid reports there are new clubs keen on the Russia international.

The schemer, who impressed at Euro 2008, had been heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur before the close of the transfer window.

A fee has not been agreed between the two clubs and Arshavin's representative Dennis Lachter says Spurs will not meet Zenit's asking price.

Speculation suggests two more teams have shown an interest in Arshavin, but Lachter has again suggested a deal will not be completed unless Zenit reduce their demands.

Lachter told The Mail on Sunday: "Andrei would love to go to England, but if it stays like this, there will be no deal.

"Zenit will not sell for a penny less than 25million euros (£19.7million) and Tottenham will not go above 22million (£17.3million)."

Good opportunity

Arshavin has previously stated a dream to play for Barcelona and the Spanish giants' technical director Txiki Begiristain is keeping an open mind regarding any more arrivals.

Begiristain told reporters: "The market closes on August 31 and we can not say that recruitment is closed because there could always be a good opportunity.

"But any move would be agreed with the coach. It's something that we will talk about and look at calmly.

"Yes, (Pep) Guardiola has suggested that we could go with what we have got and take a gamble on youth squad players."
