Giggs: Sympathy for Ferdinand

Ryan Giggs has backed Rio Ferdinand to bounce back from the disappointment of missing out on the England captaincy.

John Terry beat Ferdinand to the role as England captain with United defender Ferdinand being named vice-captain to the Chelsea man.

Giggs believes the decision by Fabio Capello will have no adverse effect on Ferdinand for club or country.

"Well Rio's a top player so is John Terry, they are both world-class defenders, both in the same position and I am sure it was a hard decision for Capello," Giggs told Sky Sports News.

"Obviously I am bias and I think Rio should have got it, but John Terry is a good player, a good professional and will make a good England captain.

"He [Ferdinand] is professional, he is still playing for Manchester United, still being picked for England every time he is fit so I am sure Rio will just get on with it.

"He will congratulate John Terry and still go on to produce performances like he has done over the last three or four years.
