Sunderland have completed the season-long loan capture of Djibril Cisse from Marseille.

The Black Cats have the option of securing the 27-year-old, who is the club's fifth signing this close-season, permanently next summer.

Cisse enjoyed mixed success during his previous spell in England's top-flight with Liverpool, but the French ace is happy to be back.

Although the North East outfit have only been in the Premier League for one season the striker believes they are a club on the up.

"I'm really pleased to join a good club with good players," he told the club's official website.

"Sunderland is a club I think is going to achieve things, they have big ambitions, that's why I chose to come here. I liked what the club had to say to me."

Sunderland boss Roy Keane believes the capture of France international Cisse demonstrates the club's lofty ambitions.

"This signing shows our ambitions and intentions. We're delighted with the new faces we've brought in, we've been working hard all summer to significantly improve the squad," explained Keane.

"The signing of Djibril shows how far this club has moved on since the end of last season. His experience will bring a lot to the squad and he will hopefully add some goals to the side."
