Keane: Delighted
Roy Keane paid tribute to the character of his Sunderland side after the 2-1 victory over Tottenham.
Kieran Richardson put Sunderland ahead early in the second half with a spectacular strike before Jermaine Jenas levelled.
The Black Cats had to withstand a lot of pressure before debutant Djibril Cisse headed home to clinch all three points.
"We are delighted to get an away victory so soon in the season," Keane told Sky Sports.
Asked if Sunderland deserved the victory, Keane conceded: "I am not sure.
"Credit to Tottenham, they deservedly got their equaliser, but we showed good character after they scored.
"And with Cisse coming on I thought that if we got one or two half-chances we'd take them."
Cisse only joined Sunderland on a season-long loan from Marseille on Thursday and Keane was happy for him to start as a substitute.
David Healy also tied up a move to the club this week but Keane opted for Daryl Murphy and El-Hadji Diouf up front.
"I thought our attacking players put in a good shift last week so it was only fair they started," Keane said.
"He (Cisse) only arrived for his first training session yesterday so we thought we'd put him on the bench along with David Healy.
"It's good for me to look over my shoulder with 25 minutes to go and look at the better options I have on the bench."
Keane is still looking to add to his squad before the close of the transfer window on 1st September.
He said: "We hope so. I am trying to work on two players and hopefully we can do something next week, but I am so delighted with the group of players I have."
