Shevchenko: Wished well by Mourinho

Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho admits he is happy that Andriy Shevchenko is returning to AC Milan.

Shevchenko was signed by Mourinho for Chelsea two years ago, but has struggled to adapt to the demands of Premier League football.

He has agreed a move back to the San Siro and is due to undergo a medical on Monday before finalising his return.

Mourinho, now in charge of Milan's city rivals Inter, believes the Ukrainian striker will be motivated upon being part of Milan's squad again.

Motivation

"The important thing is for him to be happy, and I'm happy for him," Mourinho told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"At Chelsea he certainly wasn't happy during two seasons and with three different coaches in charge.

"Someone like him, who returns home, does so with a lot of motivation.

"I can't say I wish great things for him because Milan is a rival, but let's say I hope he becomes champion of the Uefa Cup."

Meanwhile, Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani insists it was not solely club owner Silvio Berlusconi's decision to bring Shevchenko back to the Rossoneri.

Galliani said: "This is a family and we're all happy.

"It's not true that only Silvio Berlusconi insisted that Andriy return. I've put my weight behind the cause too and I'm happy that in the end we've succeeded in bringing him home."
