Giggs: Tough season ahead

Ryan Giggs insists Manchester United have enough talented individuals to cope without Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Red Devils have looked far from impressive in their opening two Premier League games of the new season, seemingly lacking the creative spark given to them by their Portuguese playmaker.

Any side would miss a player who bagged 42 goals last season, but Giggs is confident that United can manage without their talismanic winger until his return from injury in October.

"He was a dominant player last season and won a lot of games for us, but we have the players to come in and create goals and score goals so we're hoping it won't be a problem," said the Welshman.

"We have definitely got the talent in the team to cope with the loss of Cristiano."

Struggled

United's next outing is against Zenit St Petersburg in the Uefa Super Cup on Friday and Giggs is hoping Sir Alex Ferguson's men do not pay the price for their additional fixtures towards the end of the campaign.

"It will be a difficult season because of the game postponed for Friday," he said.

"We also go to Tokyo this December for a couple of games there (in the Fifa Club World Cup), so we have to cope with that.

"Last season, towards the end, we had a great squad to choose from.

"The year before we struggled against Milan in the Champions League when we were also going for the league.

"We ran out of players and ran out of legs. Hopefully, we have got all the injuries at the start of the season and can get everyone back fit after the international break."
