Kanoute: Happy in Spain

Frederic Kanoute has dismissed reports linking him with a return to Tottenham Hotspur.

Speculation has surrounded the Mali international ever since his former mentor at Sevilla, Juande Ramos, left Spain for White Hart Lane.

Spurs' search for a new striker has been well documented and Kanoute previously enjoyed five goal-laden years in the Premier League between 2000 and 2005.

Spells at West Ham and Tottenham were then followed by a switch to the Primera Liga as Ramos took the languid forward to Andalusia.

The Spaniard is thought to be keen to work with the African ace once more, but Kanoute has ruled out the possibility of a return to England.

"I can assure you that there have been no offers," he told AS.

Stronger

Kanoute is instead looking forward to the start of the new campaign in Spain and believes that Sevilla have a squad capable of snatching the title away from Real Madrid.

"We may not be the favourites for the league but I think that we can cause Real Madrid and Barcelona a surprise," he continued.

"I think this Sevilla squad is stronger than it has been in previous seasons and we always want to beat the teams that are going for the title."

It is exactly one year since Antonio Puerta died and left the city of Sevilla and Spanish football in shock and Kanoute admits that he has been remembering his friend.

"Antonio has never stopped being special to us and always will be, but on a day like this you do think about him even more," he added.
