Newcastle are trying to hijack Everton's move for Guinea defender, Kamil Zayatte, skysports.com understands.

As revealed by skysports.com earlier this week, Everton were facing a battle to sign Zayatte with a number of clubs rivalling them for the Young Boys Berne ace.

Zayatte had a trial at Goodison Park recently and is believed to have impressed Toffees boss David Moyes.

Moyes was thought to be keen on signing the imposing central defender, but the move appears to have stalled allowing Newcastle to move in for the 23-year-old.

It is understood Newcastle have expressed an interest in Zayatte and that the player is currently on Tyneside holding talks with Magpies officials.

Young Boys are unlikely to stand in Zayatte's way and Newcastle will be hoping to tie up a deal before the transfer window slams shut on Monday.
