Ronaldo: Admired by Real

Ramon Calderon is unsure if Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo will be a Real Madrid player next summer.

Ronaldo was the subject of a concerted chase by Real earlier in the summer before pledging his immediate future to United.

Real had a bid rejected by their Premier League counterparts and have been tipped to make a renewed effort to sign Ronaldo at the end of the season.

Portugal international Ronaldo has said he wants to play for Real one day, but the Spanish champions' president Calderon is uncertain when that day will arrive.

Touch wood

When asked if Ronaldo would join next summer, Calderon told Marca: "The truth is I don't know. The player continues having a contract with his club and as such we cannot do anything.

"I can't say anything about the coming year either because I don't know what is going to happen. We don't even know if we are going to be here...we hope that he comes, touch wood, but in a year's time many things can happen.

"All the fans want to see a player like Cristiano Ronaldo here, but I am convinced that in the same manner that Manchester would love to see all our players in their team.

"Cristiano is not going to come now. As for the coming year, only God knows."

Calderon has also revealed that Real's coaching staff decided against making a move for AC Milan playmaker Kaka.

He added: "It did not seem that Kaka's position needed to be covered, according to the coaching team.

"I have to say that a move for Kaka was a possibility this summer, but they have told me that we don't need a player like Kaka now."
