Keane blasts poor performance

Black Cats boss has no complaints

Sunderland boss Roy Keane was bitterly disappointed with his side's performance in their 3-0 defeat to Man City.

Shaun Wright-Phillips' brace along with Stephen Ireland's first half opener left the Black Cats boss reeling and he struggled to pick out positives during the unusual thrashing at the hands of his former Manchester United team-mate Mark Hughes.

"Disappointing would be an understatement," he told Sky Sports.

"(We were) very poor today, particularly in the second half. Obviously to concede a bad goal just before half-time and then City punished us, particularly on the break. I've no complaints really.

"City just seemed stronger and quicker than us and looked dangerous on the break.

"But not too many positives for me to take from the game today so maybe it's just good we've got a break coming up."

The home side rarely troubled Joe Hart in the City goal, despite Keane sending on three strikers in the second half to bolster his attack.

However, by the 58th minute and with Wright-Phillips' second goal, Mark Hughes' men had managed to kill off Sunderland who looked dead and buried.

"We had an off day today and if you have an off day in the Premier League you're going to get punished, and that's what happened today," Keane added.

"Credit to City who took full advantage of how poor we were and that's the sign of a good team so no complaints from that side of it. It is a reality check to everyone.

"Sometimes you're best trying to move on and take your medicine, it's a hard one to take because we have to do a lot better than that."

With the transfer deadline looming the Sunderland boss also felt that one new addition to the squad would be enough because his side are strong enough to deal with "setbacks".

"Today we came up short, and we have to make sure we're ready for Wigan," he concluded.
