Lampard: Confident of title challenge

Frank Lampard believes Chelsea are strong enough to win the Premier League regardless of whether or not Robinho arrives from Real Madrid.

The Blues have been chasing the Brazilian's signature for much of the summer and the player himself has also spoken of his desire to clinch a move to Stamford Bridge.

However, a transfer looks increasingly unlikely after Real Madrid criticised Chelsea's conduct and stressed that he would be staying at the Bernabeu.

Lampard feels that Robinho would be a welcome addition but insists that Chelsea would be able to cope without him.

"I think the squad is strong enough no doubt about it," said the midfielder.

"Any extra signing of a top-quality player would be a bonus but we have a very strong squad.

"I think we've shown that at the start of the season and in past seasons.

"We've added to it very well already and I feel we are strong enough anyway."

Home form

Chelsea lost their 100 per cent record on Sunday when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham.

Lampard realises the importance of winning at home, after the Blues drew seven times at Stamford Bridge last term.

"That cost us the league," Lampard added.

"With most teams that win the league you'll find their home form is pretty formidable.

"The way we played the first game of the season we dominated through midfield and maybe teams have looked at that and wanted to try and stop us playing through the middle.

"We will have to counter that in our own way although I think we have enough quality to play through any team but it does make it difficult when teams sit back and pack midfield.

"The onus is on us to do something different."
