Everton's transfer woes finally came to an end on Monday when they snapped up Marouane Fellaini.

The £15million splashed out by the Toffees to bring the Belgium intentional to Goodison Park saw them smash the club transfer record.

Having endured a frustrating summer in his search for new recruits the arrival of the 20-year-old from Standard Liege came as welcome relief to boss David Moyes.

The acquisition of the prodigious youngster certainly bodes well for the future, with the club's acting chief executive Robert Elstone also expressing his delight at the deal.

"We have signed one of European football's most exciting prospects, who will have a huge part to play at Everton over the next five years," Elstone told the club's official website.

"I spoke with (chairman) Bill Kenwright and David Moyes shortly after concluding the deal and they are delighted we have managed to secure his services.

"It came late on, like a lot of the big deals in the Premier League, but he's with us and we look forward to welcoming him to Goodison."

Fellaini joined Liege, Everton's forthcoming opponents in the first round of the Uefa Cup, in 2006 and made 84 appearances for the Belgian champions.

He has also won 10 caps for Belgium and recently represented his country at the Beijing Olympics.
