Tevez: Expecting City challenge

Manchester United star Carlos Tevez admits neighbours Manchester City are now serious title contenders following their cash windfall.

City have received a major cash injection from prospective new owners The Abu Dhabi United Group and are now regarded as the richest club in the world.

The Abu Dhabi United Group signalled their ambitions by splashing out a British record fee of £32.5million on Robinho and Tevez believes the Brazilian will make City a better side.

"Robinho will greatly improve the quality of Man City. They will be much closer to the top this year," Tevez is quoted as saying in The Sun.

"He's one of those great players that people want to go and watch because he has a lot of fun playing.

Entertainers

"Robinho is one of the game's best entertainers but the Premier League defenders won't see it that way.

"The players who have to mark him will be very uncomfortable this season.

"City's squad is looking so strong now. With Robinho, Pablo Zabaleta, Martin Petrov and Elano they have real quality."

Tevez is also looking forward to the Manchester derbies with United keen on gaining revenge after losing both games against their bitter rivals last term.

The Argentine also admitted City defender Micah Richards was the most difficult opponent he came up against last season.

Revenge

"With all their impressive new signings, the two Manchester derby games could be really significant this season. They are now even more important to win," added Tevez.

"We lost to City twice in the league last year but, even though they are stronger now, we look forward to gaining revenge.

"They have quality and they also have the defender who marked me the best last season - Micah Richards. Well-built, fast and strong, he is a very good defender."
