France defender Philippe Mexes has been left 'disgusted' after his side began their World Cup qualifying campaign with defeat.

Les Bleus manager Raymond Domenech is under severe pressure after his side suffered a shock 3-1 loss against Austria on Saturday.

Domenech came in for criticism after France's poor showing at Euro 2008 and reports suggest he must now secure three points on Wednesday against Serbia if he is to keep his job.

Mexes endured a poor outing against the Austrians and admits the side must improve quickly if they are to get their route to South Africa 2010 back on track.

"I accept responsibility for my mistakes," the Roma player told reporters. "What happened was more my fault than the coach's fault. All the players trust him.

"These are the types of mistakes you cannot make at international level. I am a bit disgusted with the way things went."

Under-fire boss Domenech added: "Qualification is achieved over a series of matches. There is one coming on Wednesday against Serbia and we will have to be ready, with will and determination.

"We will have to fight until the end."
