Coventry chairman Ray Ranson has dismissed reports that Michael Mifsud is set to be sent out on loan.

Speculation has suggested the Malta international may be on his way to Championship rivals Sheffield United with the loan window reopening for clubs outside the top flight on Monday.

The 27-year-old handed in a transfer request over the summer and came close to securing a move to Bristol City at one stage.

That deal ultimately failed to materialise and the striker was forced to stay at Ricoh Arena.

His desire to leave the club has not prevented Chris Coleman including him in his first-team plans this season, and the Sky Blues are understandably keen to retain the services of their top scorer from last term.

The mooted deal with the Blades was thought to include an option for a £300,000 transfer to be pushed through in January, but Ranson insists that is not the case.

"There's nothing in it - why would we loan out a player of his quality?" he told the Coventry Telegraph.
