Berbatov: Set for weekend debut

Ryan Giggs believes Dimitar Berbatov will prove to be an astute piece of business for Manchester United.

The Bulgarian striker moved to Old Trafford from Tottenham in a frantic deadline day deal, with the Red Devils fending off late interest from cash-rich neighbours Manchester City.

The £32million man was immediately whisked away for international duty upon agreeing his move to United, but is set to be handed his debut for the reigning champions against Liverpool on Saturday, a game which can seen live on Sky Sports 1.

Despite the new-boy having had little time to acclimatise to his new surroundings, Giggs is backing the 27-year-old to be an instant hit.

Stature

"Berbatov is a Manchester United-type player," said the former Wales skipper.

"He has that physique and stature because he is over six foot, so he offers something a little bit different to Wayne Rooney or Carlos Tevez. For a big man he has a superb touch.

"But he also has a big personality, the personality you need to be a success at Manchester United."

It remains unclear as to whether Sir Alex Ferguson will hand his latest signing a starting berth in this weekend's North West derby, or if Berbatov will be forced to settle for a place on the bench.

Ability

Either way, Giggs is just grateful that he no longer faces the prospect of coming up against the talented front-man.

"I am glad Dimitar is on the same side as me," he said.

"I have seen his ability at first hand when he played against us for Tottenham.

"I am sure he will be an excellent signing."
