Defoe: Crouch praise

Peter Crouch has hailed Portsmouth strike partner Jermain Defoe as the best 'penalty box player' he has played with.

Crouch moved to Fratton Park from Liverpool over the summer and has started alongside Defoe in all four of Pompey's Premier League games this season.

Neither striker had much of a chance to shine as Portsmouth suffered back-to-back defeats against Chelsea and Manchester United.

However, they have linked up well in the last two matches with Defoe netting four goals to continue his fine form from last term.

Crouch has yet to score for his new club but he realises what his own role will be and has been hugely impressed by Defoe's predatory instincts.

Fantastic

"He is fantastic in and around the box," said Crouch.

"His touch and his quick finishing make him the best penalty box player I've played with.

"Give him a chance and invariably he'll put it away.

"If I can play to my strengths and get my fair share of goals, we'll do well this year."

Team effort

Defoe showed his class with two well-taken goals at the weekend as Portsmouth came from behind to beat Middlesbrough 2-1.

However, the former Tottenham man has remained modest about his performance.

"This was a team effort with lots of energy and movement," said Defoe.
