Chelsea boss Luiz Felipe Scolari has admitted to being surprised by the Football Association's decision to overturn John Terry's red card against Manchester City.

The England captain appealed against his Eastlands dismissal as Chelsea believed referee Mark Halsey's ruling that Terry was guilty of 'serious foul play' was incorrect.

Had the red card stood then Terry would have been facing a three-game ban, which would have included Sunday's clash with Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken of his frustration over the FA's independent regulatory commission's decision, claiming a United player would not have been treated so leniently.

Scolari shock

Scolari has praised the ruling but concedes he is surprised - in a positive way - to have his captain available for the weekend.

He said: "I am satisfied because it is the first time I am a coach when they changed the decision of the referee.

"I think only in England this would happen. In other countries the referee is the God.

"This time the referee said he made a mistake. For me it is a surprise, a positive surprise. The Football Association understand that the referee makes mistakes sometimes like you and me."
