Bolton manager Gary Megson insists he will not be asking Kevin Davies to change his style of play.

Davies has come in for criticism after a strong tackle in Saturday's 3-1 defeat to Arsenal forced Gael Clichy off at half-time and saw the full-back leave the Reebok Stadium on crutches.

The striker was booked for the challenge, but some critics have suggested the former Blackburn and Southampton man should have seen red.

However, Megson - who defended his player in the wake of the loss to the Gunners - does not want to see Davies change his approach following a positive run of early season form and with a trip to Manchester United on Saturday's schedule.

"With three goals in five games this season, I certainly won't be telling him to change," Megson told the Manchester Evening News.

"Manchester United away is a very daunting task regardless of how you've performed in the previous match.

"But we will go there and I'm hoping we go and play as we did in the second half (against Arsenal)."
