Gary Neville and Owen Hargreaves have been left out of Manchester United's squad for the clash with Aalborg.

The experienced duo did not travel with their team-mates as Sir Alex Ferguson's side flew out to Denmark for Tuesday's UEFA Champions League Group E fixture.

England international Hargreaves continues to be hampered by the troublesome knee injury which has restricted his appearances ever since his move from Bayern Munich last summer.

The midfielder will remain at the club's Carrington training base for further treatment ahead of the weekend Premier League clash with Blackburn Rovers.

Club captain Neville has only recently returned to the starting XI after almost 18 months on the sidelines following ankle surgery, but appeared to come through the 2-0 win over Bolton on Saturday unscathed.

The right-back's absence means Wes Brown is expected to step back into Ferguson's starting XI against Bruce Rioch's men.

United are looking for their first win in the defence of the trophy they lifted in Moscow in May, having been held to a 0-0 draw by Villarreal at Old Trafford two weeks ago.

Aalborg defender Michael Jakobsen will serve a one-match ban against United, while the Danish side also have doubts over Kasper Risgard and Jeppe Curth, who both sat out training on Monday.
