Kevin Blackwell believes Sheffield United were rewarded for their patience in their pursuit for Brian Howard.

The former Barnsley man made his debut for The Blades at the weekend after emerging off the bench late on in their 3-0 win over Bristol City.

Howard's switch looked a formality before The Tykes requested a sell-on clause which delayed the deal allowing Charlton to make a last minute bid.

However, United finally got their man on Thursday after paying an initial £200,000 to secure his services on loan until January, when the switch is expected to be made permanent.

Very strange

"It's a very strange situation, but football is very strange and life is very strange," said Blackwell.

"I have got the player, Barnsley have got their money and I think both parties are happy.

"If I have to wait six month or either month or take a long boat to China or India to get a player, I will do that. Patience is a virtue."
