Kenwright: Not close to sale

Everton have dismissed speculation suggesting the club is on the brink of being sold.

Some reports had intimated that a deal was close, with chairman Bill Kenwright travelling abroad for talks with a potential buyer.

However, officials have now insisted that no new developments are imminent at Goodison Park.

"Contrary to this afternoon's media reports, the club is not on the verge of being sold," said a spokesman on the club's official website.

"Mr Kenwright spent this afternoon in his London office."

Kenwright stated last month that he was actively looking for new investment to support manager David Moyes' team-building plans.

He added that he would consider selling the club - but only to the right investor.
