Taylor and Pearce: Winning combination

Steven Taylor believes manager Stuart Pearce's fear factor in the England Under 21 dressing room helps produce positive results.

The U21s recently booked their place in the 2009 European Championship with a two-legged play-off victory over Wales, and captain Taylor has attributed the success to his boss.

Pearce's only defeat in charge of the U21s came in the finals of the same competition in 2007 when Holland won a dramatic penalty shoot-out 13-12 in Heerenveen.

And Newcastle defender Taylor is full of praise for former senior international Pearce as he and his team-mates begin planning for next summer's tournament in Sweden.

"There is nothing better than having someone like Stuart Pearce in the dressing room," Taylor told The Sun.

"He has got an aura about him. The lads listen. He might frighten some people when he talks but he gets so much respect.

"When Stuart Pearce is your manager and he shouts, it is amazing how many heads turn.

"He's been there and done it. He knows what it is all about. We look up to him."
