Derby County defender Dean Leacock has ended any doubts regarding his future by agreeing a new contract until 2012.

Leacock's deal was due to expire at the end of the season and he was linked with Championship rivals Burnley and Preston before the close of the summer transfer window.

However, he has now accepted a contract to stay at Pride Park and is aiming to help the Rams return to the Premier League.

"I have always been happy at Derby and have always wanted to stay here, so it's good to have the new contract as I'm settled at the club," Leacock told the club's official website.

"Paul (Jewell) wants to be back in the Premier League and so do I - and I want to be back there with Derby County."

Impressed

Rams boss Paul Jewell believes the 24-year-old, who has made 79 appearances in over two years at the club, deserves his new deal.

Jewell said: "Dean deserves great credit. He knuckled down, he said to me 'I'll show you I should be here' and he has been rewarded with a new contract.

"He is pleased, we are pleased, and I have been very impressed with his attitude and desire to stay at Derby County which also speaks volumes for the club."
