Martin Laursen has revealed that he was not totally surprised to learn that David Beckham could be heading to AC Milan.

Milan vice president Adriano Galliani confirmed earlier on Wednesday that he was hopeful a deal could be struck for Beckham to join the club on loan.

The Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder is keen to find a European club to train with at the end of the Major League Soccer season to maintain his fitness for international duty with England.

Beckham could arrive in January and Aston Villa defender Laursen believes a deal would benefit both parties.

Laursen, who played for Milan from 2001 to 2004, feels Beckham is still a top player and has a lot to offer at the highest level.

He also understands that Milan want to continue to boost their profile, having signed some of the world's most famous players in recent years.

"It is not a big surprise to me if he wants to come back to Europe because AC Milan are a club that like to bring in big names and good players," Laursen told Sky Sports News.

"David Beckham is still a very good player and AC Milan have brought in some very big names recently with Ronaldinho, Ronaldo and, when I was there, Rivaldo.

"They like the world class players and the names as well.

"He still plays for England, still has ambitions and as a city there are other stars there so he will not draw all the attention.

"He will be fine."
