Shrewsbury winger Chris Humphrey is hoping to get a regular run in the side after his goalscoring heroics at the weekend.

Humphrey came off the bench to score Shrewsbury's equaliser in the 1-1 draw with Brentford just two minutes after joining the action.

The former West Brom youngster has been converted from a striker to a winger at Shrewsbury and is reputed to be one of the quickest players in the Football League.

The jet-heeled wide-man has been frustrated by his lack of starts this season, but he is hoping his goalscoring performance at Brentford has given Shrews boss Paul Simpson a reminder of his talents.

"I was delighted to get the goal on Saturday, but I would have preferred to have won the game," Humphrey told skysports.com.

"The manager has been telling me that I won't score, but I am happy to put an end to that.

The 21-year-old has only made two starts all season and Humphrey is determined to win a regular place in Simpson's first XI.

Frustrating

"It has been a frustrating season for me so far starting only two games," added Humphrey. "I have mainly been used as a substitute this season and I hope that might chance now after Saturday.

"I plan to keep working hard and if I get the chance I have to make sure I take it.

"Every player likes to be playing and I would like to think I have done enough to be playing regularly.

"Like all the lads I am focused on doing my best for Shrewsbury and aiding their bid for promotion.

"Scoring goals is great, but I get just as much satisfaction creating goals and hopefully there is more of the same to come."
