David Nugent is hoping that Tony Adams will be installed as the new manager of Portsmouth.

Pompey are on the lookout for a new boss after Harry Redknapp left the club for Tottenham over the weekend.

Adams fulfilled coaching duties under the former regime and has been placed in temporary charge of club affairs, along with Joe Jordan, until a new coach is named.

He has made no secret of his desire to secure another managerial role at some stage, after previously taking in a spell at Wycombe.

Nugent certainly believes Adams is the right man to step into Redknapp's shoes, as he is already accustomed to life at the South Coast club.

Favourite

"It would be nice. He's been at the club for a while now, he knows the players and the staff, so if he gets the job then I'll be happy," the one-time England international told Sky Sports News.

"It didn't go too well for me under Harry, but if Tony gets the job then things might go my way.

"He has a possible chance, he's favourite now, but there's a few other managers as well so it's up to Peter Storrie to decide that - but hopefully he does get it."

Concentration

Nugent also confirmed that the Portsmouth squad remain focused on the task in hand, a Premier League clash at Liverpool on Wednesday, despite the upheaval currently surrounding the club.

"It's exactly the same," he added.

"We are the same group of players, we just haven't got a manager at the moment.

"I'm sure Tony will come in and do a great job and we can just look forward to the game on Wednesday.

Injuries

Meanwhile, the striker revealed that he is stepping up his recovery from two hernia operations which have kept him out of action so far this season.

"I had an operation three weeks ago, so I've got another two weeks left yet," said Nugent.

"Hopefully I can start playing a few reserve games and push myself back into the first-team.

"I don't want to set any targets, though, because it's reoccurred once before and I don't want that to happen again."
