Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has poured praise on the strike partnership of Andy Johnson and Bobby Zamora in the wake of Wednesday's victory over Wigan.

Johnson was the hero at Craven Cottage as he netted both goals in a 2-0 win to secure his personal century of league goals.

But Zamora also caused Wigan - who are now in the relegation zone while Fulham move away from the bottom three - endless problems.

And after bringing the attacking duo to West London in the summer, Hodgson is hopeful the pair will continue to blossom as Fulham look to prove the critics wrong.

Threat

"Johnson and Zamora were a constant threat to the Wigan defence," Hodgson told Sky Sports News.

"That is what we hoped they would be and what we hope they will continue to be."

Fulham - who had been tipped for relegation by some this season - have now secured 11 points from their opening nine games and sit 14th in the table, much to the delight of Hodgson.

"I am happy to have 11 points after nine games," he added. "We remain modest here at Fulham.

"We know it is going to be a hard season, but certainly 11 points sounds a lot better than eight from eight. It was an important win."
