Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch has confirmed that he has no intentions of leaving the club and insists he is looking forward to working with new boss Tony Adams.

The striker started against his old club Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday night as Pompey went down 1-0 thanks to a 76th minute penalty from Steven Gerrard in Adams's first game in charge.

After joining Portsmouth for £11million in the summer, Crouch has scored six goals in 15 games and says he is happy at his new club.

Crouch said in The Sun: I signed for Portsmouth because I believed they were a club on the up, not just because of Harry Redknapp.

"I am sure Tony Adams will be able to carry on his good work."

The England man has formed a lethal partnership with Jermain Defoe this season but the pair did not start together at Anfield.

Surprisingly Defoe, who has scored six league goals in nine Premiership games, was left on the bench by Adams as Crouch was deployed as a lone-front man.

Adams insists that Defoe understood his decision.

"J is one hundred per cent behind me," said Adams in The Guardian.

"I've had a good response from all of them but particularly J. He understands and next week it might be Peter's turn or someone else's turn (to miss out)."
