Lampard: Confident

Frank Lampard is confident that Chelsea will win the UEFA Champions League.

The Blues came agonisingly close last season as they lost to Premier League rivals Manchester United on penalties in Moscow.

They are among the favourites for European glory again this term and Lampard admits he is more desperate than ever to lift the trophy.

The midfielder accepts that there are a number of teams in the competition capable of going all the way, but he believes it is Chelsea's destiny to one day emerge triumphant.

"I think whether it is this year or in the years to come we will win the Champions League," Lampard said in the News of the World.

"We want to win the Champions League this year - make no mistake about it. We have been beaten in the semi-final and we lost in the final last year.

Top drawer

"You just get more and more hungry each year as you go along.

"Every year you start afresh but you know in the knock-out stage one bad performance and you are out. We have learned that the hard way."

Chelsea are in a strong position to advance to the last 16 and head to Roma on the back of an emphatic 5-0 victory over Sunderland on Saturday.

Lampard, who notched his 100th league goal against the Black Cats, added: "We are a confident bunch at the moment.

"Some of the football we are playing at the moment is top drawer."
