Newcastle United defender Steven Taylor has spoken of his desire to see a manager stay for longer than a year at St James' Park.

With Newcastle now sitting bottom of the Premier League table after wins for Tottenham and Bolton at the weekend, the defender firmly believes that in order for the club to move on they need to stick with one man.

The 22-year-old has played under an alarming six managers in his time at Newcastle and admitted his disappointment when Kevin Keegan left the club early this season.

He told the Daily Mirror: "It was hard when Kevin left. When you keep changing your manager it's always hard. It just seems like every manager comes here and only gets a year.

"So far I have played for Sir Bobby Robson, Graeme Souness, Glenn Roeder, Sam Allardyce, Kevin Keegan and now Joe Kinnear. That's six."

Taylor, despite his relatively young years has managed to make 130 appearances for the club and insists that interim manager Joe Kinnear can do a job for Newcastle.

He added: "I think Joe Kinnear has steadied the ship, given us confidence and done things his way.

"People have forgotten what an amazing record he had at Wimbledon - he gets an extra 10 per cent out of people."

Newcastle host Aston Villa on Monday night when they know a win will see them climb out of the relegation places.
