Martins: On the up
Obafemi Martins hopes Newcastle's victory over Aston Villa will signal a change in fortunes at St James' Park.
The striker netted twice as Newcastle recorded a 2-0 home victory over Villa on Monday to move off the bottom of the Premier League and out of the relegation zone.
And following a turbulent season to date, Martins is hopeful the Magpies can now climb the table in the 'fight' to avoid the drop.
"We don't have to look down any more," Martins told the Newcastle Chronicle. "We should be looking up and going in the other direction.
"If we continue this sort of form, I still think we can finish in a good position. We need to keep on winning and concentrate on the games coming up next.
"But to beat a good team like Aston Villa shows that we are a good side ourselves.
"I hope we can continue like this because we are still in a fight. The only way you can get out of it is by winning games. So I'm happy that we won."
Newcastle travel to fellow strugglers Fulham on Sunday, live on Sky Sports 1 and HD 1, looking to continue their recent resurgence.
