FA wait on Villa complaint

Allegations of racism during Newcastle's 2-0 win on Monday night

The Football Association is waiting to see if Aston Villa make an official complaint following allegations Joey Barton racially abused Gabriel Agbonlahor.

There have been claims that Barton racially insulted Agbonlahor after the pair tangled during Newcastle United's 2-0 win over Villa on Monday night.

Reports suggest Villa are examining video evidence to determine whether there is a case to present to the FA following the allegations.

The FA is aware of the rumours concerning Barton and has confirmed the matter will be pursued, if Villa lodge a complaint.

An FA spokesman said: "We are aware of the rumours circulating and have had a number of calls on the subject, but it is difficult to comment any further on something that has no further substance to it.

"We take seriously any allegations of racist abuse and will obviously act accordingly if we receive any official complaint from Aston Villa."

Hectic schedule

Agbonlahor's agent Tim Webb confirmed Villa are investigating the matter, but said the player has not told him of any further altercation with Barton.

Webb told The Guardian: "I have not spoken to Gabby. It was a day off for him on Tuesday because he has such a hectic schedule with Villa and his mobile has been turned off.

"I am aware that Villa are looking into the situation."

The FA has already confirmed that Barton will not face any further action after flicking out a hand towards Agbonlahor in Monday's meeting between the two sides.
