Edwin van der Sar has confirmed Manchester United have spent time in training working on combating Rory Delap's long throw.

The Red Devils come up against a Stoke side currently in form following three wins from their last four matches in all competitions.

One of Stoke's main attacking threats are Delap's deadly set-pieces from the sidelines; an option which has already caught out a number of teams this season.

United take on Stoke at Old Trafford on Saturday and Van der Sar believes Sir Alex Ferguson's troops have one or two ideas up their sleeve to nullify Stoke's weapon.

One of two ideas

"We've been working on it of course and we've got one or two ideas," he told Sky Sports News.

"The main thing is if we have the ball we've got to play our game and we've got quality all over the pitch.

"Of course you have to focus on the set-pieces from the opposite team and normally those of corner kicks or free-kicks and these are throw-ins so that's a different approach."

Meanwhile, the vastly-experienced keeper is not sure when he is planning on retiring, although he has a few options in his mind on what he would like to do when he hangs up his gloves for good.

"It's not going to be from 9 to 5 sitting behind a desk for example so I'm going to pick a couple of nice things out of that hopefully and do some coaching, do some community work and commentary for television," he concluded.
