Scotland's upcoming glamour tie against Argentina will be the perfect preparation for their World Cup qualifier in Holland according to striker Kenny Miller.

The Rangers star is expected to start at Hampden next week in what will be Diego Maradona's first game in charge of Argentina - and he believes it is the kind of test the Scots need in order to make it to 2010.

"When we've got a team like Holland coming up, it's great to be facing top-class opposition beforehand," he told the Daily Record.

"I would imagine the team will line up in a similar way to how we will play in Amsterdam so it is going to give us practice playing like that.

"Argentina are one of the teams who get the pulses racing. Certainly a lot of people will want to come and see one of the best teams in the world.

Maradona

"The fact Maradona is managing them for the first time only adds to the hype."

After Argentina comes the serious stuff of making their first Wold Cup finals since 1998, and Miller sees second spot in their group as a real possibility.

He said: "I don't think there's any doubt we can achieve that play-off place. We've seen all the opposition we've got for that spot, if we assume Holland will top the group.

"We've still to play the Dutch but we know they are a top-class team with a lot of incredible players and they'll give us two tough games.

"But we played and beat France, another great side, twice in the last campaign and the knowledge we are capable of doing that will stand us in good stead.

Belief

"We have to have a belief we can go to places like that and compete and give ourselves a chance to get some kind of a result."

Meanwhile, Argentina star Lionel Messi has revealed he will be at Hampden next week - but only as a fan.

The Barcelona forward will not play in the game due to an agreement between his club and his country that prevents him playing in friendlies.

He said: "I want to be at Diego's first game, even as a fan. As an Argentinian, you want to be there when Maradona has his first game as our manager."
